Kim has been singing for 35 years in various choirs and ensembles and then solo work. She sang as a gig muscian for the duo "NightSong" with Dave Reynolds for 5 years. In 2021, she picked up a ukulele for the first time and played a song in an hour. She was hooked. In her first year of playing, she bought 5 different ukuleles as she began to grow out of the previous models. Then, in January 2023, she came upon the Kanile'a 2023 Platinum. It was a limited edition celebration instrument for Kanile'a, creating quality instruments for 25 years. She bought one to celebrate her getting her Masters in Theatre Studies from Southern Oregon University. It is a professional-grade instrument that she can grow into. Now she has this as her main ukulele and a carbon fiber one for travel and outdoor gigs. She now plays in a band called "On a Wing," and enjoys the challenge of playing, singing and leading the band. They've been together for a year and are growing in their musicianship together as they play for local farmer's markets and events. She continues to improve her artistry.
Established in 2022, "On a Wing” has a unique sound and approach to jazz standards and easy pop tunes.
The band is lead by Kim Nile on vocals and tenor ukulele, with Neil Carpentier-Alting on stand up bass, Alex Hogstrom on jazz guitar and Marty Nile on cello. The band excels at creating an easygoing and laid-back atmosphere to indoor and outdoor events. “We enjoy playing and learning music together, and we hope to pass that joy to our listeners.”
We hope to have a live recording of the band soon!
